What is Mashrabiya?
A Mashrabiya, also known as a lattice screen, perforated screen, or Arabic wooden latticework, is a traditional architectural element commonly found in Middle Eastern and North African architecture. It consists of intricately carved wooden or stone panels, often used in windows, balconies, and facades to provide shade, ventilation, and privacy while allowing airflow and diffused light. This design technique, which aligns with passive cooling principles, is widely used in contemporary architecture for sustainable and decorative purposes.
